TYPES OF CATCHES IN CRICKET

Catching balls in cricket is not very simple, untrained people generally fail to take even the easiest catches and  It is due to the lack of usage of proper techniques. So every person aspiring to become a cricketer should use the correct technique while taking catches. Even though catches can be taken in many ways there are some most commonly used catching techniques in cricket they are:

1.AUSTRALIAN CUP TECHNIQUE

This technique is used to take high catches. When the ball is high in the air and coming over or towards your head and catching such balls is called a high catch. The Australian cup technique is also known as the reverse cup technique

While taking catch using this technique you should point your fingers up and lock your thumbs and the top portion of your one hand should be placed above the top portion of your other hand and the hands should form a cup-like shape. while taking the catch make sure that your hands are relaxed and you should slightly move back your hand during the impact with the ball. so that there is a reduced chance of bouncing off.

2.ORTHODOX CUP TECHNIQUE

This technique is used to take mid catches. When the ball is coming below the chest level and catching such balls are called mid catch

In this technique, you should form a cup-like shape with hands and the ring finger and little finger of one hand should cross above the little finger and ring finger of the other. In this technique, you should lower your hands during the impact to reduce the effect of the impact and it also helps to avoid the ball bouncing off.

3.SLIP CATCHES

Slip fielders are placed to take edge catches. In slips, different catching techniques are used in slips. The slip fielders should stand with a slightly bent knee so that it will be easy to take catches at different heights. Slip fielders can use both Orthodox cup and Australian cup techniques. When the ball is coming towards you in a way that it will go through your side then you can use the orthodox technique by modifying it.

4.DIVING CATCHES.

Diving catches are done when the ball is coming down but you are, a little away from the area of the fall or the ball is coming horizontally above your head but it is a little higher than what you can catch. In dive catches you can use one hand or both hands. If the ball is going to land in front of you then you can use the orthodox cup technique. If the ball is passing above your head then you can use the Australian cup technique. Even a single-handed catch can be taken in both cases.
