CREDITS: BCCI

If you are a professional cricketer you know that you started your professional cricketing journey by practicing basics like how to grip a bat, how to stand on the pitch etc. As time passed you may have mastered all these techniques and now you may feel it easy to score runs.

But when you progress more and enter into the next level in your career you will be facing more quality bowlers. So now you need to add some special techniques in your batting, that will help you to face these quality bowlers more effectively and efficiently and one of those techniques is trigger movements. In this article, we will be discussing trigger movements in depth.

WHAT IS TRIGGER MOVEMENT?

Trigger movement is a short movement of the feet that takes place just before the ball is released by the bowler. It helps the batsman to get into a position that will help him to play either front foot shots or back foot shots more easily.

The batsman will be having a particular trigger movement for both front foot and back foot. While using trigger movements the batsman moves quickly it helps him to have some additional momentum which will help him to play more powerful shots. Most of the batsmen use trigger movement to play against fast bowlers but it can be effectively used against spinners also.

WHY TRIGGER MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT IN CRICKET? OR WHY YOU SHOULD USE TRIGGER MOVEMENT

1)It helps to improve your timing: Becoming a great batsman is all about timing. When you are standing still on the pitch you are not having any rhythm. But when you use trigger movements it provides you with a rhythm that will make sure that your body and bat come towards the ball at the same time this will naturally improve batting.

2)Improve the transfer of momentum to the bat: Batting involves the transfer of momentum from the whole body to the bat. The trigger movement improve this transfer of power and helps to add some extra momentum to the shots you are playing

3)Improve your performance against fast bowlers: The trigger movement allows you to move your feet before the bowl is released. Most of the experienced say that the prior movement of the feet helps them to react to the ball more effectively due to the additional time they get due to the completed movement of the legs.

4)Help to transfer your body weight easily: When you play a drive the body weight is transferred from the back foot to the front foot. This improves the power of your shot. If you are using a trigger movement this weight transfer will be very efficient and you will be able to play shots with more power like Dhoni.

DISADVANTAGES OF TRIGGER MOVEMENTS?

1) Sometimes you will get into the wrong posture: The problem with trigger movement is that it is a sudden movement and the mistakes you make will lead you to a really bad posture which will not allow you to play certain lines and lengths so if something like that happens it will lead to loss of wicket.

2) Timing is prime: If there is any loss of timing it may even lead to the loss of a wicket. So correctly timing your trigger movement is very important.

3)Hard work: It is not easy to perform a trigger movement it takes a lot of work and experience to precisely execute a trigger movement.
