BATTING STANCE IN CRICKET AND WHICH IS THE BEST BATTING STANCE?

WHAT IS A BATTING STANCE?

Batting stance means how you stand on the pitch to face a ball bowled by a bowler. The best batting stance is a position that helps the batsman to comfortably play most of the shots against any ball bowled by a bowler.

A batting stance includes how you place your feet on the pitch, how you position your head to watch the ball, where you rest the bat before attacking the ball, how your shoulders are positioned, and how much you bend your knee and hip.

WHAT IS A GOOD BATTING STANCE? HOW TO DO BATTING STANCE?

The Orthodox batting stance is considered as the best batting stance and it is the most commonly used batting stance by players at all levels. It is considered the best batting stance because it helps a batsman to play any type of shot to any part of the ground. It gives more comfort for batsmen in playing shots.

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

1) Stand sideways with feet pointing to the point fielder

2) Feet should be shoulder-width apart.

3) Weight should be equally balanced between both legs. and knees should be slightly bent

4) Head should be straight facing the bowler and the chin should positioned above the front shoulders.

5)Hands should be close to the body at the waist height

6)The bat should be placed behind the back foot and the handle of the bat should be rested in the front foot thigh.

WHAT IS AN OPEN STANCE?

I
n an open stance, the batsman will have a more open chest. This means that your head and chest are also facing the bowler. In the orthodox stance, your head and front shoulder are only facing the bowler, and the rest of the body is facing the point fielder.

In the orthodox stance, your feet will be parallel to each other. But in the open stance, the front foot is slightly moved towards the leg side which helps the batsman to have a more open chest. Another important change that happens in the open stance is that your front shoulder will be facing the mid-on region instead of facing the bowler.

Batsman generally uses the open stance when they feel uncomfortable with the Orthodox stance. Another reason why batsmen use this stance is to avoid lbw.

Some batsmen have the problem of moving the front foot a little bit more towards the offside while playing . This means that the batsman needs to bring the bats in front of the pad to play the shot this creates difficulty in batting and can lead to lbw if the ball hits the pad so they choose the open stance to avoid this issue with the pad.
